Given Name(s)Ezio

Full Biographical Data“He learned fencing from an English officer and from Captain Serafino La Manna while detained in the Zonderwater Camp. He joined the Zonderwater Fencing School and became a skilled fencer. While there, he designed and forged a new sword hilt for his sword called “pistol grip”. One of his POW colleagues suggested him to modify the hilt of the epee and the foil, that at the time it was in line with the blade, as it could improve the speed and the effect of the sword thrust. Triccoli designed and made the two hilts in cast aluminum. The performance was tested and found much improved. Triccoli brought the hilts he had invented back to Italy when he was repatriated in 1947. Once he was settled, he created the Jesi Fencing Club in Jesi, his hometown, near Ancora, Italy, where he introduced a new style of fencing and trained many Italian Olympic champions. Triccoli’s pistole grips for the epee and the foil were later officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee.” Emilio Coccia
