| Short Description | T5 Deloraine was one of several PoW Control Centres set up in Tasmania during WWII, under the “T” (Tasmania) plus number system used to identify local labour-administration units, alongside centres like T1 Burnie and one in Launceston. These were small satellite outposts of the main Tasmanian base at Brighton Military Camp, which handled the core medical, disciplinary, and records functions for Italian POWs.
T5 Deloraine’s role was to place Italian PoWs with local farms facing wartime labour shortages after Italy’s surrender in 1943 these men were reclassified as lower security risks, so they typically worked on farms largely unguarded. |
